Dr. Shane Thomson

BVetBio BVSc

Shane began working as a veterinarian at HVC in 2013 with a strong interest in providing production and breeding services to the beef industry, and became a business co-owner in 2018.

Shane completed his veterinary training at Charles Sturt University and has almost finished a Master’s degree in whole farm consultancy through the Fred Morley centre at CSU. For Shane, this degree combines the delivery of production and breeding services with the ability to analyse the farm system as a whole, facilitating the provision of sustainable and economically viable production advice.

Shane often presents information on beef production practices at conferences and field days and enjoys the challenge of doing so. Shane is an accredited pregnancy tester under the ACV National Pregnancy Diagnosis scheme and recipient of the 2014 ACV Rural Practice scholarship.

Shane grew up on a beef cattle property in south-eastern NSW and maintains a strong connection with the realities of beef cattle production through his commercial cattle enterprise that he runs with his wife Caity and two sons; Bradley and Cooper. Outside of work Shane enjoys riding his motorbike (now with baby seats!), getting out and about with his dogs and loves catching up with his extended family for repeated games of ‘non-competitive’ footy!
